So currently I drive a 2014 ford focus st. It is a lot of fun to drive but I have a wandering eye for a lot of other vehicles. I recently found a very clean 2000 impreza 2.5 rs coupe and I am seriously considering buying. Its bone stock except shift knob and radio which is so rare to find these days and has only 130k miles.. The head gaskets and timing belt were done at 125k and it has a clean and clear title.

So although the focus st is new and has a warrantee and a turbo and is way faster and I own it outright.... This little Scooby has grabbed my attention.

Alternatively the scooby means I can put about 12k into the bank (some of which will have to go into the car) and also save me about 700+ dollars a year in insurance and registration costs and still have a fun rare little Awd car to blast around the Rockies in....

there is so much more to all of this going through my head but I am asking you oppo...what would you do?

Here is a pic of an sti vs a rs for ur troubles.

Keep the focus until the warranty runs out.

Keep the Focus if you can only have one car. You’ve already paid it off and you’ll take a bath on the depreciation.

Keep the focus. Already yours plus warranty so no worries there. Also depreciation is a bitch

If we were having this conversation before you bought the ST, there’d be a discussion.

As it is, don’t be stupid. You have value in the Ford that you won’t get back in a sale. Old Subarus are fun, but the Ford is better, and you already own it.

Um...buy both if you can, if not, sell the focus and buy the 2.5 RS. Save enough money to buy another focus st (used).

Sometimes you’ve just got to scratch the itch.

A colleague at work wants to trade in his 1.5 year old Fiesta ST3

for a Land Rover Evoque.

Go with your gut.

Don’t sell it so you don’t lose a ton of money? You’ve already bought it. It probably wasn’t that smart to buy a car you don’t like but now you’re stuck with it. Get the Subie as a 2nd, every time you do a transaction, you are losing money.

Yeah I mean I have a buyer lined up that I would be getting a grand less than I paid for it.... And the difference in anual cost in registration and insurance alone is 700$ or more. Not to mention the car is going to rapidly depreciate as time progresses but a stock 2.5rs should hold its value nicely. I love he focus but sometimes it just seems too Meh. It can be fun to drive but at the end of the day I’m still sliding into a focus which does not appeal to me in styling very much (aside from the grill) and the interior is just such a mess. It has dashboard bukkake with the 10k+ buttons. I would miss some of the creature comforts like Bluetooth calling but I could just go buy a Bluetooth head unit to make up for that. But at the same time there is reliability and warantee which is great...but I’m always stressed its going to get a dent or scratch where as the subie has all its imperfections so new ones won’t matter. Lol I told you there Is a massive internal battle in my head right now

I would keep the focus. My subie was a PITA. Why not upgrade the FoSt if you are getting bored with it?

The main reason is money and warrantee. I don’t have funds that I want to allocate to upgrades. And if I had the money the idea of breaking the warrantee seems a bit dumb.. I’m part of a local st group and most of those guys have modded and they spend so much the dealing with the fallout of that.

What subie did you have and what were some of the problems you came across

I understand this internal struggle. I got a new car too but thankfully it is a lease. Now I can turn it in and get the car I have had my sights on. As much as people love to knock on leasing, it is great for trying out a car you might like but not like in the future when your income/tastes change.

If you are only taking a $1000 hit on the sale, that is really nothing. Your time with the car is worth $1000. Just make sure this time around, you know you will like the Subie for long term. I would think it has more long term appeal and pedigree than a fwd hatch.

Yeah that’s the thing the fost is a blast but Awd in Colorado is awesome Lol and I have always had a crush on the 22b and god knows I will never find one of those. I think my plan really comes down to driving the stock motor into the ground then buying a crate motor to swap with a better trans. I make good money and that with the help of the 12 k leftover from the fost I could really keep he scuby going well. I managed to get a 100k mile automatic 2.5 rs for the gf and I love driving it despite the slushbox...taking that into consideration I bet the manual will be great. I test drive today and I will update you on my decision

Welp what the photos failed to show and what the seller failed to disclose is that the quarter panels were fucked with rust... Then as I went through the paper work I saw no sign of the head gaskets bring done and most of the forms were the purchase of one small thing followed by what seemed to be important things being turned down... I need to find s 95 year old lady who bough one new when she wax 80 and it sat in her garage

If I wanted a subie, I would go for the peanut eyed ones. In blue, with gold rims, STI.

The bug eyes are nice but the 2.5 rs is rare and looks mean. I have always thought Subaru gave up on design after 2001 on the impreza
